Borussia Dortmund vs. Monaco: Time, TV schedule for Champions League

Borussia Dortmund and Monaco will play under strange circumstances on Wednesday

UPDATE: Game postponed due to an explosion striking Dortmund’s team bus.

The neutrals should be able to sit back and enjoy a feast of football at the Westfalenstadion on Wednesday, as arguably the two most entertaining teams left in the Champions League face off. Both Borussia Dortmund and Monaco are much better going forward than sitting back, and their respective coaches will surely look to play to their strengths.

Dortmund thrashed Benfica 4-1 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals, though their defensive frailties were exposed on the weekend when they were beaten 4-1 away at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. They’re a good team, but their domestic form suggests they’re still some way short of being streetwise enough to compete at the highest level.

Monaco, on the other hand, may be ready for the fight. They’re currently sitting top of their domestic table, and beat the fancied Manchester City to reach the Champions League quarterfinals. Leonardo Jardim’s side are still very young, but will be confident of reaching the semifinals of this tournament for the first time since they were beaten by José Mourinho’s Porto in the final back in 2004.

Borussia Dortmund’s only certain absentee is the injured attacker Mario Götze. However, he could be joined on the sidelines by several familiar faces, with Erik Durm, Julian Weigl, André Schürrle, Shinji Kagawa, and Marco Reus all in doubt. Dortmund could also be without Marc Bartra, who was hurt in the explosion on Tuesday. Monaco will be without the injured Gabriel Boschilia and Guido Carrillo; key central midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko is suspended. Djibril Sidibé faces a late fitness test.
