AS Monaco vs. Borussia Dortmund Champions League lineups: Kylian Mbappe leads the way

AS Monaco are hoping for another big performance from their young star against Borussia Dortmund.

There’s going to be a big showdown in Monaco as AS Monaco get set to host Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarterfinal. With Monaco nursing a narrow 3-2 aggregate lead, they’re going to need a second big-time performance from their top-shelf young star, Kylian Mbappe.

To that end, they’ve named a starting lineup designed to get him as much support as possible. Falcao will force defenders to be honest and not overload marking Mbappe, and the creative team of João Moutinho, Bernardo Silva, and Thomas Lemar will be able to feed him the ball on a regular basis. Dortmund’s defense is going to be hard-pressed to deal with such a dynamic threat as what Monaco are trying to create, but their own attack has to be taken seriously as well in this tie.

Despite being shaken from the prior days’ bomb attack on their bus, Dortmund still showed how lethal their offense can be. Their two goals were of high quality, and the team they have starting the match can score on anyone — and still has significant firepower lurking on the bench, including young American star Christian Pulisic. They’re far from out, and Monaco’s sometimes-shaky defense will be sorely tested.

AS Monaco starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Danijel Subasic; Benjamin Mendy, Kamil Glik, Jemerson, Almamy Toure; João Moutinho, Tiemoué Bakayoko; Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, Kylian Mbappe; Falcao

Borussia Dortmund starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Roman Bürki; Lukasz Piszczek, Matthias Ginter, Sokratis, Erik Durm; Julian Weigl, Nuri Sahin; Marco Reus, Raphaël Guerreiro, Shinji Kagawa; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
