Two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer so far this season meet for the second time this season, as New York City FC get set to host Orlando City on Sunday as they look for a little bit of revenge for their season-opening loss.

New York City FC and Orlando City meet for the second time this season as they battle for positioning in the Eastern Conference.

Both teams have been in good overall form this season, with Orlando sitting in second place in the East in MLS, and NYCFC two points and two spots behind them in fourth. Comparing their schedules, though, it feels like Orlando has been the better team — with wins over NYCFC, the New York Red Bulls, and LA Galaxy to their name, and their only loss coming to the East-leading Columbus Crew.
NYCFC, meanwhile, have dropped points to Orlando, the Montreal Impact, and DC United, and they don’t really have a signature win of any kind yet this season. A strong performance against Orlando and a win in this match could be that first signature win, though, and you can expect them to come out playing strong and focused — just as long as Patrick Vieira has figured out a solid and consistent tactical plan for this match, at least, which hasn’t always been the case this season.
New York City FC have two players out for this match and the near future, with forward Khiry Shelton and defender Ronald Matarrita both out with leg injuries. That hurts them a bit, but they’re in better shape than Orlando City, who will be without Seb Hines and Antonio Nocerino, as well as several players in questionable health: Kaka, Rafael Ramos, and Jose Aja. That leaves their depth somewhat compromised in several areas, and could prove tricky for Jason Kreis to deal with.
