The end of the Premier League season is in sight, and Chelsea’s hopeful title triumph is just as close. They hold a four-point lead over second-place Tottenham Hotspur with six matches to go, and as Chelsea head into the first of those matches against Southampton, their eye is firmly on the prize.

Chelsea can take one step closer to securing the Premier League title with a win over Southampton.

Antonio Conte has enjoyed incredible success in his first season as Chelsea’s manager, although after winning three straight Serie A titles in his three seasons in charge of Juventus, this is really just business as usual for him. He’s kept his side on-task all season long, and now that they’re so close to their goal, it’s more important than ever to make sure they get there. They slipped up a little bit last weekend against Manchester United, but Conte’s Chelsea side will only use that setback as a reason to refocus and get into even better form.
That’s fairly unfortunate for Southampton, who took a harsh loss to Manchester City last weekend after winning two straight matches in the previous weeks. The Saints have a tough run of matches coming up and a win over Chelsea would give them a good kick of momentum heading into that run — and playing the spoiler in a title race is always fun. But Claude Puel’s team will have to have perhaps their best match of the season if they’re going to get that result, because Chelsea looked fantastic in taking down Tottenham in the FA Cup semifinal this weekend.
Southampton will be without four players of note — Charlie Austin, Virgil van Dijk, Alex McCarthy, and Matt Targett. That’s a tough quartet to lose for a team like Southampton who don’t always have the most reliable depth, especially when they’re going up against a team like Chelsea. What’s more, Chelsea are very much healthy, with only Gary Cahill in any doubt.
