Manchester derby 2017 live blog: Scores and highlights from Manchester City vs. Man United
Follow along as the two Manchester clubs fight for a top four spot in the Premier League.

A classic Jose Mourinho derby match. He set up his team to defend and they defended very well. 0-0 is very much a deserved result for both teams. Arsenal and Liverpool will be thrilled.
90 + 6’ — Sergio Aguero has the winner on his foot and he misses a mile wide. Almost went out for a throw.
90 + 2’ — Ashley Young on for Marcus Rashford. United has zero strikers on the pitch.
90’ — Gabriel Jesus has the ball in the back of the net, but it won’t count. Offside. And he didn’t realize it until after he’d been celebrating for five seconds.
85’ — United was already sitting back and playing defensively, but now they really have no choice but to play for 0-0. Timothy Fosu-Mensah comes on for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. City brings on Gabriel Jesus, who replaces Raheem Sterling.
84’ — RED CARD! Marouane Fellaini gets a yellow for fouling Sergio Aguero. Ten seconds later, he makes another yellow-worthy challenge. Aguero gets up and Fellaini moves his head towards him, followed by Aguero going down. Straight red for a headbutt, and deserved.
79’ — Manchester City making another change too. Jesus Navas is on for Leroy Sane.
76’ — Claudio Bravo is down with a calf injury and he’ll have to come off. Willy Caballero is entering the match. For United, Jesse Lingard is replacing Anthony Martial.
67’ — First thing resembling a chance in a long time. Great cross into the box after a set piece and Otamendi gets a head to it, but his effort deflects off Eric Bailly and over the crossbar.
57’ — We’ve reached the phase of the game where players fall down in an attempt to win penalties instead of trying to attack. This did not work for Leroy Sane.
47’ — Raheem Sterling goes on a 50 yard run. His shot is bad.
46’ — And we’re back. Second half kickoff, no changes for either team.
HALFTIME — Manchester City 0-0 Manchester United.
We have to admit we’ve seen better games than this one.
45’ — Huge miss by Ander Herrera! Free kick comes on from the left, Herrera is completely unmarked at the back post, and his header misses. Absolute sitter.
34’ — City keeps finding Aguero. This time, he shoots over the bar.
32’ — Aguero forces De Gea into the best save of the day so far. The City striker tries to curl one into the top corner from 25 yards and De Gea does well to not only stop it, but catch it.
25’ — Claudio Bravo flaps at a cross and puts himself in a bad position, but he recovers and saves Mkhitaryan’s shot a second later.
21’ — Closest thing to action in a while is a weak shot by De Bruyne easily saved. Lots of good defending and physical play so far. Chances look likely to be few and far between.
13’ — Rashford is down in some pain after Nicolas Otamendi kicks out at him. Referee Martin Atkinson just misses it. Strange.
11’ — United has gone back to a more conventional look with their forwards up top, Rashford goes to the center and Mkhitaryan moves to the right.
9’ — Huge miss! Kevin De Bruyne crosses, Sergio Aguero is unmarked, and he hits the near post.
3’ — Turns out the strange Mourinho wrinkle is the way his forwards are aligned. He’s got Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial wide to run at City’s fullbacks, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan is playing as a false nine.
1’ — Kickoff! Keep an eye on Ander Herrera early — Jose Mourinho has used him to specifically man-mark players recently.
On Thursday night, Manchester City and Manchester United face off on the blue side of the city. The top four race has tightened up, and neither team can afford a loss.
City is coming into this game off the back of some major disappointments. They were knocked out of Champions League by AS Monaco a couple of weeks ago, then fell to Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinal. Now, all that’s left in their season is making sure they finish in the top four to have the best platform to push for trophies next season.
Top four is still United’s top priority, but their season isn’t over. They’re still in the Europa League, and will face Celta Vigo next week. Still, winning this game and finishing above City would make this season a successful one.
If United is going to win on Thursday, they’ll have to do it without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, and Paul Pogba. Their absences give Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Marouane Fellaini big chances to impress. United will be the slight underdog in this match — in addition to being away from home and missing top players, they lost the first meeting between these two teams.
