Spanish team accused of match fixing after losing 12-0 to Barcelona B

The team also tried to cancel their season.

Spanish third-division club Eldense lost 12-0 to Barcelona B on Saturday, confirming their relegation. They have six games left to play, but news broke the next day that they’d cancel the rest of their season.

But it’s not as simple as an embarrassed squad taking their ball and going home. Eldense’s board has requested the Spanish league conduct a match fixing investigation, and they’ll certainly have some threads to follow.

Eldense player Cheikh Saad, who did not play in the game, gave a radio interview where he stated that match fixing occurred. “There are four players involved in match fixing,” he said.

“I don’t care what happens, but when I can, I will give the names of these players.” He continued, “the coach told me to come on and I told him I did not want to. I also told my teammates on the bench that they shouldn’t go out on to the pitch if they didn’t want their names to be stained.”

Some investors in Eldense also believe that the board does not have the power to cancel all remaining games and training, and is trying to sort out that end of this mess, too.
