Real Madrid will look to move closer to winning their first domestic title in five years on Saturday, when they welcome fierce rivals Atlético Madrid to the Santiago Bernabéu for the latest edition of the Madrid derby. It could prove rather easier said than done, with both of these teams having been in outstanding form over the last few weeks.

Real — who head into the weekend two points and a game-in-hand clear of second-placed Barcelona — have won five La Liga games on the spin; only Atléti have been in such red-hot form of late. Diego Simeone’s side may be all but out of the title race — they sit 10 points adrift of the league leaders — but local pride means they’re sure to be giving their all at the Bernabéu.

Madrid’s only absentee is Raphaël Varane, who is sidelined through injury. Atléti haven’t been quite so fortunate: Augusto Fernández and Tiago are both longterm layoffs, to be joined in the stands by Šime Vrsaljko and Miguel Ángel Moyá, who are also injured. Kévin Gameiro and Nicolás Gaitán face late fitness tests.
