Soccer announcer screams his lungs out as last-second goal gets French team promoted

French club Amiens has made it to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history.

Ligue 2 — the second division of French soccer — came to an extremely dramatic end on Friday, with all of the top clubs waiting until the final seconds of the final games to learn where they’d finish. The standings changed with the absolute last kick of the season.

You absolutely have to hear the French call of that moment, and watch the entire bench clear in celebration.

That’s Emmanuel Bourgaud of Amiens SC scoring a game-winning goal in the 96th minute to earn his club promotion to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history. Amiens was in the third division of French soccer last year, and has earned back-to-back promotions.

All of the top six clubs won on Friday to finish within three points of each other, meaning they all had a chance to get promoted or miss out on the promotion spots on the final day. Strasbourg claimed the top spot early in the day and held onto it, but the fight for the final spots went into the final minutes.

Lens thought they’d secured second place until Troyes scored a winner in the 88th minute, firing themselves into the final promotion place. But Amiens re-arranged the table again with their late goal.

Strasbourg and Amiens now head to Ligue 1 automatically, while Troyes will enter into a playoff with the 18th-placed team in Ligue 1. And it’s a heartbreaking end for Lens, Brest, and Nimes, who will all feel like they had good enough seasons to go up, but fell short.
