The Confederations Cup is always an interesting tournament for some of the fascinating matchups it brings about, like 2017 AFCON winners Cameroon taking on 2015 Copa America champions Chile. That’s the kind of thing that you just don’t get to see often, so that makes their tilt on Sunday a rare and most welcome treat.

Chile are making their Confederations Cup debut after winning the Copa America two summers in a row, hoping to add a third straight tournament trophy to their collection. Alexis Sanchez and Co. are a different team now than they were in 2015, though manager Juan Antonio Pizzi proved that his team can still find success when they won the Copa America Centenario a year ago. Their World Cup qualification efforts have been a bit hit-or-miss of late however, though a strong performance in this tournament could help push them to a strong finish in the final stretch of qualifying.

Cameroon are riding high after winning their fifth African Cup of Nations title earlier this year, becoming the second-most successful team in the history of the tournament in the process. That success hasn’t extended to the World Cup, though, getting out of the group stage just once in seven trips to the biggest tournament in the sport. They’ll be hoping to perform well against some top-notch competition in this tournament, though their chances of making the World Cup next summer are looking a little slim right now. Still, strong performances here could help propel them to better results back home, and they have the talent to force their way back into the qualification picture.
