Jamaica have made a solid start to their Gold Cup campaign, following up an opening-day victory over minnows Curaçao with a very solid draw against Mexico on Thursday. They’re almost certainly through into the knockout stages already, but will look to advance in style with a win over El Salvador on Sunday.

Jamaica take on El Salvador in Sunday’s Gold Cup action.

However, Theodore Whitmore’s men should be wary of complacency, with El Salvador just a point in arrears after a couple of games. They were comfortably beaten by Mexico on the opening matchday, though bounced back to beat Curaçao last time out. They, too, have a great chance of making the knockouts — if only as one of the best third-placed teams — and so they’re sure to be in confident spirits as they take to the field.
Neither Jamaica nor El Salvador have ever won the Gold Cup, but both have gotten close: Jamaica were runners up in the last edition in 2015, while El Salvador have twice been beaten finalists — albeit not since 1981.
