AS Monaco might file FIFA complaint over PSG, Manchester City reportedly tapping up Kylian Mbappe

Teams aren’t going through the proper channels to talk to the most coveted player in the world.

Kylian Mbappe is wanted by just about every big soccer club on the planet, and AS Monaco doesn’t think everyone’s registered their interest in the proper way. The Ligue 1 club issued a statement on Thursday that they’re considering filing complaints with FIFA and the French league over the actions of multiple clubs.

Those clubs aren’t the ones he’s been reported to have had conversations with, Arsenal and Real Madrid. Instead, it’s the ones we’ve heard a bit less about — Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, according to Bryan Swanson of Sky Sports.

Mbappe is just 18, but he became a global star in his first season as a starter for Monaco. The young Frenchman recorded 15 goals in Ligue 1 play, another six in Champions League, and a total of 26 goals across all competitions. His pace, dribbling skills, off-the-ball movement, and finishing are already earning him comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry.

Notably, Monaco’s statement reads more like a threat than a notice that a complaint has actually been filed. Emphasis is ours.

“To put an end to this unacceptable situation, AS Monaco consider asking the French Football League (Ligue de Football Professionnel) and the FIFA to commit disciplinary procedures against clubs offenders.”

If Monaco reports City and PSG, those clubs might retaliate in some way in the future, or simply not do business with Monaco. A good business relationship with those clubs is better for Monaco than justice would be. Rather than poison the well, Monaco seemingly wants those teams to stop registering their interest in ways that are against the rules and start offering lots of money for Mbappe or any other Monaco players they might want, in order to spark bidding wars and drive up prices.
