The USMNT faces a very tough test in the Gold Cup semifinal.

Following a poor showing in the group stage, the USMNT called in reinforcements and started five new players against El Salvador. The group of Tim Howard, Darlington Nagbe, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore improved the Americans considerably. And after a bad opening 30 minutes, they started to mesh well with the other six starters who have been around all tournament.
Costa Rica’s squad arguably got worse after the group stage, with some of the team’s most experienced players leaving to join up with their clubs. But captain Bryan Ruiz remains, along with a very stout defense.
