During the last Gold Cup, Mexico got the better of Jamaica in the final, which sent them to the CONCACAF Cup playoff and eventually the Confederations Cup. The Reggae Boyz will be out for some revenge on Sunday, and with Mexico’s best players out, they’ll like their chances of getting it.

The Jamaicans played El Tri in the group stage of this tournament, holding them to a 0-0 draw in their first meeting. Jamaica then beat Canada in the quarterfinal, thanks to goals from Shaun Francis and Romario Williams.
Mexico was far from convincing in their Gold Cup quarterfinal, but they started fast, and arguably had the toughest opponent of all the semifinalists. Rodolfo Pizarro scored in the fourth minute of that match to put his team up on Honduras, and El Tri never relinquished their lead.
Under Juan Carlos Osorio, Mexico have taken a lot of risks and often left themselves thin in defensive midfield. If they continue with that strategy on Sunday, they’ll be punished by Jamaica’s fast counter-attacking. While El Tri are the strong favorites to advance to face the United States in the final, they need to be aware of the threat posed by Williams and Darren Mattocks with their pace.
