Italian giants Juventus and AS Roma go head-to-head at Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium in the last of their respective International Champions Cup fixtures on Sunday. It has been a mixed bag for both sides so far: Juve followed up a defeat to Barcelona by beating Paris Saint-Germain; Roma saw off Tottenham Hotspur only after being beaten on penalties by PSG.

The two Serie A title contenders clash at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

That means both coaches will be hoping for a little more consistency in performance, as well as ironing out any remaining tactical flaws. It’s an especially pressing matter for Roma, who are still getting used to life under new boss Eusebio Di Francesco — he arrived from Sassuolo over the summer. With just three weeks to go until the start of the Serie A season, there’s not too much preparation time left.
AS Roma summer signing to watch: Lorenzo Pellegrini
Young Italian midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini has followed Eusebio Di Francesco from Sassuolo to Roma this summer, though it’s something of a homecoming for the 21-year-old. Born in the capital, Pellegrini spent his entire youth career at Roma before being sold to Sassuolo in 2015. Since then he’s established himself as one of Italy’s most promising young prospects, and has been handed a first cap for the national team. He could develop into a very good player indeed.
Juventus summer signing to watch: Federico Bernardeschi
Juve’s biggest signing so far this summer has been that of winger Federico Bernardeschi, with the 23-year-old dumping his own boyhood club for the reigning champions. Over the last few seasons he’s established himself as one of the most effective wide players on the peninsula, and has made nine international appearances. He’s going to be a very useful weapon in Massimiliano Allegri’s armoury, and could make his debut here.
Compared to other friendlies, is this worth my time?
A few new signings underscored by the fact that these sides should both be competing for the Serie A title in the upcoming season. It could be interesting. 7/10.
