Chelsea kick off their Premier League title defense at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, as they play host to Sean Dyche’s Burnley. It’s a game the Blues really ought to win, though their opponents did establish themselves as a very solid mid-table outfit last season, and have strengthened in the transfer market. It could be a tighter game than you’d expect.

Summer signings Antonio Rüdiger and Álvaro Morata are both expected to feature in Chelsea’s starting lineup, though Antonio Conte’s side will be without the injured Tiemoué Bakayoko and Eden Hazard, while Victor Moses is suspended. Burnley boss Dyche, meanwhile, could turn to Jack Cork, Jonathan Walters and Phil Bardsley, all of whom are recent arrivals. Their only absentee is the injured Dean Marney.

These sides last met at Stamford Bridge last August, with Chelsea running out comfortable 3-0 winners. Not since 1971 have Burnley managed to win away at Stamford Bridge. However, the fact Chelsea have lost all but one of their pre-season matches means the Clarets do have reason for optimism — Conte’s men may not yet be up to full speed.
