As usual, Real Madrid and Barcelona dominated Spanish soccer last season. However, it’s been a long time since one won the Copa del Rey, while the other won La Liga. That’s what happened last season, and it set up two editions of El Clásico in the Supercopa de España.

Los Merengues conquered the league last season, while Barca salvaged a disappointing campaign with a win in the Copa del Rey. It appears that Madrid is still getting better while the Blaugrana go backwards, so Sunday’s match is a big opportunity for Lionel Messi and co. to prove they’re still on top of the sport.

With Neymar’s departure, Barca is currently scrambling to bring in talent. The club has yet to sign any new stars, so they head into this match a bit shorthanded. Madrid, meanwhile, has only lost backups in the transfer market and the club is satisfied with their squad.

Barcelona players Andre Gomes, Thomas Vermaelen and Gerard Deulofeu all have minor knocks, but are expected to be available for Sunday’s match. Jesus Vallejo is the only player missing for Real Madrid through injury, while Luka Modric is suspended.
