The Spanish Supercup looks to be all but a formality at this point after Real Madrid won the first leg against Barcelona 3-1 despite playing at the Camp Nou. Now with the Sanitago Bernabeau buzzing and momentum on their side, they’ll be looking to finish the job.

Real Madrid overcame Barcelona’s home field advantage in a match that really showed how the directions of the two teams seems to be going in different directions. Without Neymar and with their team aging, slowing, and lacking depth, Barcelona struggled to keep up with Real Madrid’s pace and work rate for long stretches of the match.

Madrid were able to hold an advantage in open play for much of the game, and being able to turn to Cristiano Ronaldo and Marco Asensio on their bench when Barcelona went to Denis Suarez and Paco Alcacer made a significant different late in the game, when Real Madrid turned a late penalty equalizer into a quick winner and a third goal for safety. It’s going to be interesting to see how Barcelona try to adapt to those circumstances, but the odds look rather against them all things considered.

Ronaldo will miss the match via suspension after the incident involving him shoving referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during the first leg of the tie just moments after scoring the winning goal of the match. Otherwise, these two teams are in fairly good health — though when it comes to their spirits, it really feels like Real Madrid have a decisive edge.
