Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente for a fee reportedly in the region of £12 million. The 32-year-old had been close to a move to reigning Premier League champions Chelsea, but has instead opted to join Mauricio Pochettino in north London.

Llorente was instrumental in Swansea’s dramatic top flight survival last season, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 15 goals in his debut Premier League season. Despite now entering the final few years of his career, Spurs clearly think he’s still got what it takes to be a very useful backup to Harry Kane as they make a run for the title.

Swansea are set to replace Llorente with Wilfried Bony, who departed the Welsh outfit for Manchester City two years ago. There are question marks about what Llorente’s arrival at Spurs means for Dutch forward Vincent Janssen, who has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane and to West Bromwich Albion. However, with time running out on deadline day, the deal will have to be thrashed out quickly.
