Arsenal have the all-time edge in wins in the rivalry, and have gotten the better of Chelsea in their last two meetings in all competitions, beating them in the FA Cup final last May, then again in the Community Shield match that starts the season in England. But Chelsea still have the better of the Gunners overall in recent years, with Arsenal winning just four matches against the Blues in the last six years, and only one of those coming in league action. Going all the way back to a decade ago, you can only add four more wins for Arsenal thanks to Chelsea’s domination.
It really goes to show just how the fortunes of these two teams have changed, with Chelsea becoming a genuine power in England and Europe while Arsenal’s star has faded. Even with Chelsea’s rise, though, these matches have almost always been contentious affairs, fought very close and with plenty of vile and venom between players and managers that genuinely dislike each other. This match promises more of the same on Sunday, making this an absolute must-watch game.
Chelsea and Arsenal are two of the healthiest teams in the Premier League at the moment. Arsenal will be without Francis Coquelin with a hamstring injury, while Santi Cazorla remains out with a tendon woe. Chelsea are missing just one player, that being Danny Drinkwater thanks to his calf injury that will keep him out into October.
