Burton Albion are coming to the Theatre of Dreams, but Old Trafford could be a nightmare for them instead.

One of the biggest hopes and dreams of many football players around England is to play at Old Trafford, the aptly-named Theatre of Dreams and the home of Manchester United. On Wednesday, the players of Championship side Burton Albion will get to do just that — but the dreams may not last long given that they’ll be facing a white-hot United side in the third round of the League Cup.

Burton Albion are in their second-ever season in the Championship after a rapid rise from non-League football over the last decade, and as such they obviously don’t have the highest hopes of hanging with Manchester United in terms of competitive quality — but this isn’t the first time they’ve faced United in a competitive fixture, and if they can find a way to steal any kind of result, they’ll have at least matched what many Burton Albion fans consider the most important result in the history of the club.

In 2006, then non-League Burton Albion were drawn against United in the third round of the FA Cup, and shocked England by holding them to a 0-0 draw at home. They would lose the replay at Old Trafford 5-0, but they still earned the respect of many around England, especially for the record-setting 11,000 traveling fans who supported their club at Old Trafford that winter day.

A repeat of the amazing performance isn’t likely here — but it is the Theatre of Dreams, and what a dream result that would be.
