It’s been a perfect start to the season for Barcelona, and they’ll be looking to extend those good feelings against Girona as they look to ruin the good feelings the smaller club has enjoyed so far in their first-ever La Liga season, and prove their dominance over Catalonia in the process.

Girona earned their way into the top division of Spanish football for the first time in the 87 years of their history since 1930 last season after finishing second in the Segunda Division, and earned their first La Liga win over Malaga a month ago. They’ve had some rough sailing since then, failing to score another league goal, but they have excitement and an ecstatic fan base at their back.

But that probably won’t be enough against a Barcelona team that’s won every competitive match they’ve played since the Spanish SuperCup, a humiliating loss that seemed to spark the kind of angry motivation we’ve seen emerge from this club over the last few years that usually heralds an epic run. They haven’t been completely invulnerable during their run, with a few shaky performances, but they’ll be eager to continue that run of dominance and show their Catalonian brethren in Girona just who the bosses in the region are.

Barcelona are without a pair of important players, thanks to Ousmane Dembele rupturing his thigh muscle last week and Rafinha still dealing with his knee injury. Girona have a trio of their own injuries, though, and much less depth to deal with it, especially given the importance of ex-Barcelona defender Marc Muniesa to their squad. The injuries to Timor and Jose Aurelio are less painful, but not impossible for a smaller squad to ignore.
