The English League Cup may be third on the list of domestic competitions in terms of how it’s viewed by the elite of the Premier League, but when the giants of the English football pyramid meet up, it’s always a good time, especially when you get to watch rivals like Chelsea and Arsenal go head-to-head like they will in the semifinals starting Wednesday.

The first leg of their tie for a place in the final at Wembley starts at Stamford Bridge, and Antonio Conte and company will be hoping to use that early home field advantage to build an lead in the semifinals while Arsenal are reeling. The major story for the Gunners right now, of course, is Arsene Wenger’s three-match touchline ban for calling the integrity of referee Mike Dean into question, a spark of controversy that’s only made Arsenal’s poor run of form look even worse.

Conte and his Chelsea side are ever opportunistic, and they’d love to worsen Wenger’s misery by putting Arsenal down emphatically in this matchup. Chelsea’s own form has been a little up-and-down of late, and a win here would help them stabilize things and push forward again as they try to find a way to make it a title race in the EPL again this season.
