The Champions League semifinals has brought us a very fun and very unexpected matchup, with Liverpool and AS Roma both upsetting the odds in the quarterfinals and slugging their way to the penultimate round of Europe’s top club competition On Tuesday, their tie begins in England, and Anfield is going to be loud as the two teams go head to head.

Roma got here by shocking the world by coming back from a 4-1 first leg deficit to beat Barcelona in front of a wild and incredible home crowd in Rome. Often seen as a team to waltz past in the Champions League so far, they’ve been anything but, putting their tough-nosed style lead by manager Eusebio Di Francesco to work and getting the results they’ve needed, even if just by the skin of their teeth at times.

Liverpool, meanwhile, beat the absolute stuffing out of the now-newly minted Premier League Champions, Manchester City. Despite running away with the league title, Liverpool made that victory taste a little bitter by beating them in both quarterfinal legs to the tune of a 5-1 aggregate victory. Their defense has stepped up big time of late, but their fearsome attack is still running the show, dropping jaws and threatening to break records.

This is the first meeting in 16 years between the two clubs, a 2-0 win for Liverpool at Anfield in what was then the second group stage of the Champions League. But their most famous European meeting was back in 1984, when Liverpool won a dramatic European Cup final on penalties. Liverpool will be hoping to make this meeting a little easier and more clear cut, especially with ex-Roma attacker Mo Salah on their side and in absolutely jaw-dropping scoring form, but it’s going to be a tense and dramatic tie.
