Edmonton Oilers
Under former head coach Todd McLellan, the Oilers got off to a 9-10-1 start to the season, just one year removed from a disappointing 36-40-6 campaign. Edmonton fired McLellan in favor of Ken Hitchcock, who has done wonders in getting the Oilers back on track. The team is 7-2-1 in Hitchcock’s first 10 games behind the bench, and his signature defense has been on display as Edmonton is allowing just 1.57 goals per game over its last seven games.
Connor McDavid is leading the way on offense with 16 goals and 25 assists through 29 games.
Five of the team’s last six wins have come at home. Edmonton still needs to prove it can win on the road as the Oilers are 2-7 on the moneyline in their last nine road games per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Colorado Avalanche
Edmonton’s new and improved defensive scheme will be put to the test against the Avalanche, who are averaging 3.6 goals per game this season. Mikko Rantanen (48 points) and Nathan MacKinnon (45 points) currently top the league in scoring.
Colorado stumbled through the early part of November with an 0-4-1 slump, but has since gone 10-2-2 over its last 14 games. The Avalanche have lost three straight road games to the Oilers since going 6-3 in their previous nine home games against Edmonton.
Tuesday night’s total is set at six goals at sports betting sites. The UNDER is 6-1 in Edmonton’s last seven games.
Three of the game’s top four scorers will be on the ice in this one, setting the stage for an exciting showdown, especially on special teams. In a year when the Western Conference looks pretty wide open, these two young teams could make a splash if they keep playing to their potential.
