New Orleans Saints
The Saints trailed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14-3 at halftime last week before eventually rallying to score 25 unanswered points, winning 28-14 and covering the spread as 9.5-point favorites to improve to 11-2 SU and 10-3 ATS on the season.
While Drew Brees and this high powered Saints offense steal the headlines, New Orleans’ defense has been outstanding of late, allowing only 13 points per game over the team’s last five games. If the defense continues to play at this high of a level in the postseason, it’s difficult to see anyone topping the Saints, especially in their building.
New Orleans is 3-0-1 ATS in its last four road games against Carolina per the OddsShark NFL Database but is just 2-4 SU in its last six on the road against the Panthers.
Carolina Panthers
When the Panthers went 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS through the first eight games of the regular season, it looked as though the two games against New Orleans in three weeks at the end of the year might be for the fate of the NFC South.
But since that start, Carolina is 0-5 SU and ATS over its last five games, hanging on to its hopes of making the playoffs by a thread. Carolina is a perfect 3-0 SU and ATS in its last three games as a home underdog since the start of the 2017 season.
Monday night’s total is set at 50.5 points. The OVER is 7-1 in the last eight games between these two teams.
Carolina’s season is on the line, and after being humiliated with three losses to New Orleans last season, there should be no shortage of motivation on the Panthers side. But whether or not that motivation will be enough to fix a team that has been broken for over a month is up to bettors to try to decide.
