Washington Capitals
Plagued by the Stanley Cup hangover that hits a lot of teams coming off such a long season the year before, the Capitals got off to a slow start in 2018 going just 8-7-3 through their first 18 games.
But since then, the defending champions have found their groove winning seven of their last eight games to surge into first place in the Metropolitan Division. Alexander Ovechkin once again finds himself among the league leaders in goals with 19 through 26 games.
Since dropping Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final to the Golden Knights 6-4, Washington is 5-0 in its last five games against Vegas per the OddsShark NHL Database. The Capitals won four straight to win the Stanley Cup last year and defeated Vegas 5-2 on their home ice this October.
Vegas Golden Knights
Like the Capitals, the Golden Knights saw their season get off to a slow start with a record of 9-12-1 through the team’s first 22 games. Vegas has finally started to get back on track with a 5-1 record over its last six games, outscoring its opponents 24-10 over that stretch. The Golden Knights are much better at home with a record of 7-3-1 than they are on the road at 7-10.
Tuesday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals. The OVER is 3-0 in the last three meetings between Washington and Vegas.
The Golden Knights haven’t been in the league long enough to form many rivalries, and a strong case could be made that the team and fanbase may dislike the Capitals more than any other team in the league. After failing to get revenge in Washington earlier this year, Vegas will get one more regular season crack at it on Tuesday night.
