Washington played the Auburn Tigers tough in its season opener but was unable to come up with the big play it needed in the fourth quarter, eventually being dealt a 21-16 defeat.
The Huskies have bounced back well since then, going into Utah to earn a 21-7 win in a tough environment against the Utes and then fending off a pesky Arizona State team 27-20 last Saturday. There will be plenty of time for the Huskies to play their way back into playoff contention in the second half of the season, but first they have to fend off BYU this Saturday.
The Huskies are 10-0 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games at home with an average margin of victory of 28 points per game over that stretch per the OddsShark College Football Database.
BYU Cougars
BYU has already pulled off a pair of outright upsets as a double-digit underdog this season. The Cougars opened their season with a 28-23 road win at Arizona as 11-point underdogs, and followed that up with a 24-21 road win over then No. 6 Wisconsin as 23.5-point underdogs.
Unfortunately for the Cougars, in between those two big upsets they dropped a game 21-18 at home to Cal, the only blemish on what would otherwise be a dream season so far. BYU is 7-2 ATS over its last nine games.
Saturday night’s total is set at 45.5 points. Both Washington and BYU have gone 4-0 on the UNDER through their first four games of 2018.
It is interesting to see Washington going off as such a big favorite in this one given how competitive BYU has been this month and how rarely the Huskies have covered spreads. Washington’s talent edge and home field advantage should propel the Huskies to a victory, but in what could be a tight scoring game, 17 points will be a large spread to cover.
