Clemson Tigers
A 48-7 win over a team like the Furman Paladins generally wouldn’t be very noteworthy for an elite team like Clemson, but the play of true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence made the game tough to ignore.
Lawrence led the offense to points on all five of the drives he started, ending the day with 137 passing yards and three touchdown passes on 15 pass attempts. The quarterback battle between Lawrence and senior incumbent Kelly Bryant will continue this week and be an interesting one to watch against tougher competition.
The Tigers are 7-2 SU and 6-3 ATS in their last nine games against SEC opponents per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Texas A&M Aggies
Tired of being mired in mediocrity since 2012, the Aggies made a big move this offseason in firing Kevin Sumlin and swiping Jimbo Fisher from the Florida State Seminoles with a 10-year, $75 million offer.
The Jimbo Era got off to a good start with a 59-7 win over the Northwestern State Demons last Saturday, but this Saturday’s game will be a good litmus test for the Aggies ahead of conference play next month. Texas A&M is just 7-19-1 ATS in its last 27 games at home.
Saturday night’s total is set at 54 points. The OVER is 12-5 in Clemson’s last 17 games on the road.
With Fisher getting his first test against a ranked opponent at College Station and Clemson still trying to sort out its quarterback situation, there is plenty of intrigue swirling around this game. Fisher and Dabo Swinney have had plenty of battles over the years in the ACC and should be well prepared for one another in this one.
