Justin Thomas enters the Tour Championship as the favorite to win the tournament at sportsbooks, and he’ll start with a lead on the field.

With a tied-for-12th place finish at the Northern Trust and a win at the BMW Championship, Justin Thomas has taken over the top spot in the FedExCup standings heading into this week’s Tour Championship. As the player holding the top spot in the standings, Thomas will receive a stroke advantage over the rest of the field in this year’s new playoff format.

Justin Thomas is a +250 favorite on the odds to win the 2019 Tour Championship at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This season, the Tour Championship is starting players off with different stroke handicaps based on their performances through the regular season and the first two playoff events. Since Thomas has moved into first place in the standings, he will start this tournament in first place with a score of -10.

Patrick Cantlay (+450 to win the Tour Championship) sits in second place in the standings and will start the tournament at -8. Cantlay also finished tied-for-12th in the Northern Trust and was runner up in the BMW Championship, causing him to jump four spots in the standings.

Brooks Koepka (+500) hasn’t performed well in the postseason so far with a tied-for-30th finish in the Northern Trust and a tied-for-24th finish in the BMW Championship. But since he entered the playoffs in the top spot in the standings with three tournament wins this season, Koepka is still in third place on the board and will start Thursday’s action with a -7 score.

Rory McIlroy (+800) will have to make up five strokes on Justin Thomas as he starts the Tour Championship with a score of -5. McIlroy was in second place in the FedExCup standings with two wins and a Tour-leading 13 top-10 finishes in 2019, but he has fallen into fifth place as Thomas, Cantlay, and Northern Trust winner Patrick Reed (+1400) have all jumped him in the playoffs. Reed sits in fourth place and will start the tournament at -6.

Other potential contenders on the golf odds, listed with their starting score and their betting line, include Jon Rahm (-4, +1400), Webb Simpson (-4, +2200), Dustin Johnson (-3, +2500), and Xander Schaufflele (-4, +2800). This rule change ensures that the winner of the Tour Championship is the same as the winner of the FedExCup, which wasn’t the case in 2017 or 2018 and led to confusion among fans.
