Just one game was played before Mardy Fish decided to withdraw from the Swiss Indoors with an injury.

Fish laid on the blue courts receiving treatment on his hamstring while playing against fellow American James Blake in their opening round match. Fish, the No. 5 seed, had held serve in the first game. He had lost the first point of the second game when he decided to pull from the tournament in Basel, Switzerland.

Fish is currently slotted in the eighth and final qualifying spot for the year-end ATP Word Tour Finals. It would be his first time to qualify for the event, which is held this year in London beginning Nov. 20. Fish is currently the No. 1 American after winning 20 of 26 matches since July. He currently has a 500-point lead on Nicolas Almagro of Spain who is ninth in the world ranking.

Blake will take on Mikhail Kukushkin in the next round. Kukushkin’s entrance into the tournament was due to Jurgen Melzer’s withdrawl due to a back injury.
