Federer is also the first player to reach all nine of the Masters finals.
On Saturday, Tsonga’s three-set defeat of American John Isner took two tiebreakers to determine the final score of 3-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (3). The match lasted two hours and 58 minutes.
Federer had an easier semifinal match, beating Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-3. But Federer said Berdych played well.
From The Times of India:
“Tomas was a maybe a bit slow in the early games and I was able to take advantage of that. He fought back well and it was only at the end that I was able to pull away.”
If he were to win his final match in Paris, Federer would earn his 69th title in his 99th final. Tsonga and Federer have both qualified for the year end ATP World Finals in London.
