The world’s top players Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer both defeated their quarterfinal opponent to advance to the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors held in Basel, Switzerland.
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer Advance To Semifinals Of Swiss Indoors
Djokovic, who is now 67-3 in the 2011 season and is playing in his first tournament since winning the U.S. Open in August, won in three sets. The dominate Serb beat Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Djokovic will face 32nd-ranked Kei Nishikori of Japan. Nishikori advanced to the final eight after he defeated Mikhail Kukushkin in a three setter that included 13 breaks of serve. The final score was 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
As for Roger Federer, the Swiss defeated American Andy Roddick in straight sets in a match that took 1 hour, 4 minutes and 21 seconds. Roddick won five games in his 6-3, 6-2 loss to Federer.
Djokovic and Federer are the only seeds remaining in the tournament with the one and three seed, respectively
