Russia’s Vera Zvonareva will not be able to play this weekend’s Fed Cup Final against the Czech Republic due to a shoulder injury. Zvonareva, the country’s current No. 1 player, said she’s been suffering from inflammation in her right shoulder for close to a month.

The World No. 7 player did compete in last week’s WTA Championship in which she defeated World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
“She can’t serve properly, therefore she has little chance against any of the Czech girls,” Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev told Reuters during Friday’s draw at the Olympic indoor arena.
The 27th-ranked Maria Kirlienko took Zvonareva’s spot. She will face Petra Kvitova, the 2011 WTA Chamion, in the opening match. Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova will face Czech’s No. 2 Lucie Safarova on Saturday.
The Czech team is looking to take its first Fed Cup title since 1993 when it shared the title with Slovakia. The Russian team is in search of their fifth Fed Cup since 2004.
“I don’t think we can be considered the favourites now,” Tarpishchev said.
