Juan Del Potro is on the cusp of making the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with the No. 10 spot.
Juan Del Potro’s Tour Finals Chances Slim After Loss

But after today’s 6-4, 7-6 (4) loss to unseeded Marcel Granollers at the Valencia Open, Del Potro’s chances of staying in the year-end tournament dwindled. To have a shot at competing in London, Del Potro must reach the finals of next week’s BNP Paribas Masters tournament in Paris.
Had he won, Del Potro would have replaced Nicolas Alamagro at ninth for the race to the No. 20 to 27 Tour finals.
Del Potro is coming back from an eight-month wrist injury. He did end last week’s Erste Bank Open in Vienna as the runner-up behind Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
The Argentine is carrying a 48-16 record during the 2011 season and is preparing for his country’s Davis Cup final match against Spain next month.
“Right now I am just thinking about Paris and the Davis Cup,” the 23-year-old told a news conference.
ATP tour players who have qualified for the Barclays include Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray. Tsonga and American Mardy Fish are currently seventh and eighth, respectively, in the standings for the season-ending tournament.
