Novak Djokovic of Serbia ended the 2011 season with a record amount of prize money: $12.6 million. The previous record amount of $10.1 million was shared by former world No. 1s Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for their 2010 and 2007 seasons, respectively. The 24-year-old Serb won three Grand Slams and 10 titles total.
His 2011 earnings moved Djokovic, the current world No. 1, beyond retired American and World No. 1 Andre Agrassi on the career prize money list. Djokovic now sits at fourth with $32.9 million. Federer still has a comfortable spot atop the list with $67.4 million.
As for Nadal, who snatched the 2011 French Open win, the $7.7 million that he earned in the 2011 seasons moves him ahead of Pete Sampras on the career prize money list into second place with $45 million.
Djokovic finished the year at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. He was upset by Spain's David Ferrer 6-3, 6-1, giving the Serb only his sixth lost of the season. The World No. 1 had a 70-6 record in 2011.
