Martin Jaite Named Argentina’s New Davis Cup Captain

The former world No. 10 takes over a team that lost to Spain in the Davis Cup finals earlier this month in Seville. It was Argentina’s fourth finals loss to Spain. That team was lead by Modesto Vazquez.
Now, Jaite, along with former ATP player Mariano Zabaleta as his assistant, will lead the country’s team.
Jaite used to play for Argentina’s Davis Cup team. He won 12 ATP singles titles and had a career record of 301-179. He reached the world ranking of No. 10 in the summer of 1990. The 47-year-old right hander was also last ranked in singles in May 1994 and last ranked in doubles in July 1994.
From Reuters:
“This is a dream I’ve had since I stopped playing tennis. I’m happy and feel very honoured by this appointment,” the 47-year-old Jaite, who reached his highest ranking at number 10 in July 1990, was quoted as saying in a statement by the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT).
