Swedish tennis player Lucas Renard has received a six-month suspension. The 19-year old player admitted to an anti-corruption scandal.

Although the Tennis Integrity Unit has only stated that Renard broke a rule that no player can “contrive or attempt the outcome of a match,” there were no specifications released.

The Local, a Swedish newspaper in English, published this tidbit:

Speaking with the Aftonbladet newspaper, Renard’s father said the incident involved an attempt by the 19-year-old to buy his way back into a tournament last summer after being eliminated.

The Tennis Integrity Unit fined the teenager on Friday with the condition that four months of the ban must be spent in anti-corruption education training and a $5,000 penalty.

The penalty will wipe out most of Renard’s career earnings, which total just $5,790. He is ranked No. 882. Renard has spent most of his career on low-tier circuits. His ban goes into effect immediately.
