Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, Spain’s two top ranked players who helped bring home the Davis Cup just last week, already know they will skip Davis Cup action in 2012.
Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer Won’t Defend Davis Cup In 2012

On Sunday, Nadal and Ferrer helped lift their country’s fifth title cup, but it didn’t take long before it was released that they would both wouldn’t return to defend their title. Ferrer said he will be retiring from Davis Cup play.
Nadal, the World No. 2 player, beat Juan Martin del Potro for the winning point in the Davis Cup final match between Spain and Argentina, 3-1. The Spaniard announced shortly after his victory that he would be spending next year to focus on individual performance.

"Next year I will not play Davis Cup," Nadal told reporters. "It's an Olympic year. I have been one of the players that plays the highest number of matches and I don't want to overplay."
