Wimbledon 2011 Results: No. 10 Mardy Fish Takes Out Denis Istomin In Straight Sets
No. 10 Mardy Fish, the highest-ranked (but not highest-seeded) American man in tennis currently, scored an impressive straight sets victory over dangerous Uzbek Denis Istomin, 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-4.
The win takes Fish into the third round of Wimbledon for the fourth time. He has never advanced past the third round.
Istomin has had a rough 2011, but is an extremely dangerous player on grass. He led eventual finalist Tomas Berdych two-sets-to-one in the third round of Wimbledon last year before eventually falling in five sets.
Fish next plays the winner of Robin Haase and No. 21 Fernando Verdasco, in a third-round match likely to be played on Friday.
