Novak Djokovic had trouble answering Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s serve in the first set of their semifinal match-up to open Wimbledon play on Friday. The Serbian was able to pull off an opening-set victory regardless, however, winning 7-6 (7-4) after the tiebreaker.
Wimbledon Live Scores: Novak Djokovic Takes Opening Set In Semifinal
Djokovic is 82-4 in majors when winning first set, which bodes well for his chances going forward, but the fact that Tsonga has already knocked off Roger Federer and his impressive streak this week probably isn’t allowing Djokovic to feel too confident.
Tsonga actually took a 2-1 lead in the tie-breaker and had even been serving for the set before Djokovic stole the momentum, eventually winning it due to an unforced error by Tsonga.
The remaining sets in this match should be interesting as Tsonga actually seems to be playing better, but unfortunately only hurting himself as he committed 15 unforced errors in the first set compared to just three unforced errors for Djokovic.
