Match updates from Day 11 of the Championships, Wimbledon 2011, where Andy Murray is putting up more of a fight than anyone thought he really had a right to, probably including Murray himself:
Wimbledon Men’s Semifinals: Rafael Nadal Leads Andy Murray, Two Sets To One
No. 1 Rafael Nadal leads No. 4 Andy Murray, 5-7 6-2 6-2. Whatever else happens in this match (and as I’m typing this, Rafa’s already ahead in the fourth set), Murray has already given more of a fight than anticipated just by taking a set off Nadal. Both players are battling nagging injuries, but it’s not readily apparent that either is particularly bothered by ailing limbs. And not to patronize, but Murray, again, has done himself proud just by not coming completely unhinged at the outset of the match. I cannot convey my shock any more politely than that.
This afternoon’s winner will, of course, advance to face No. 2 Novak Djokovic (who will ascend to No. 1 just by reaching the finals) on Centre Court this Sunday.
