Match updates from Day 13 of the Championships, the men’s final of Wimbledon 2011, where World No. 2 Novak Djokovic is out to prove he deserves the World No. 1 ranking he’ll have on Monday.
Rafael Nadal Falls Two Sets Behind Novak Djokovic In Wimbledon Finals
No. 2 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) leads No. 1 Rafael Nadal (Spain), 6-4 6-1. There was a point, very early on in the first set of today’s match, where it looked like Djokovic just knew, in his heart of hearts, that Nadal had the upper hand and always would. He was gleaning points where he could from Nadal’s unforced errors, but played a little too much defense in today’s initial games.
That is no longer the case. Djokovic wins his first service game to take a 1-0 lead in the second set, then breaks Nadal’s serve with a sly return of a drop shot that’s ... vintage Nadal. The Spaniard goes on to take one game, but the Serb already has a 3-0 lead, and sails to a 6-1 victory.
