Schiavone struggled a few days earlier as well, barely surviving in the third round against unranked Chanelle Scheepers. Schiavone dropped the first set of the match, and had to make it through a tiebreak in the second set before winning the match 6-3 in the third set.
Pavlyuchenkova will have another tough matchup in the quarterfinals, facing Monday’s winner between Serena Williams and 16th-ranked Ana Ivanovic.
