Heineken Open 2012 Final Results: David Ferrer Defeats Olivier Rochus For Third Title In Auckland

David Ferrer defeated Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-3 6-4 at the 2012 Heineken Open to win his third career title at the tournament, and his second in a row. The tournament’s top seed and world No. 5 ranked player had to contend with several rain delays as well, as has been the case all week in Auckland.

Play was disrupted twice by weather in the first set of match. With Rochus serving deuce, the players were forced to take a pause during the just the second game of the match. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Rochus was promptly broken on the point. Later, Ferrer had three chances to serve out the set up 5-3 before the rains came again, sending the players off the court.

The second set was played without interruption, and actually featured some impressive tennis. Rochus came back to tie the set at 4-4, but Ferrer would go on to win the final two games as well as the title. For more, head over to the official site of the Heineken Open and check out our StoryStream.
