Australian Open 2012 Results And Scores: Lleyton Hewitt Upsets Milos Raonic

Day 6 of the 2012 Australian Open saw an upset victory by hometown hero Lleyton Hewitt as he knocked out No. 23 ranked Milos Raonic (4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3) to advance to the fourth round of the Open. Hewitt started his match with a double fault, but rallied back after dropping the first set with Raonic to take the final three straight sets to pull the upset victory.

“A couple of months ago I would have done anything to be in this position. It was just another game, but it was a bloody big game,” Hewitt told the crowd. “I was just hoping my body would hold out for the first match. I hadn’t looked past that.”

Hewitt will take on No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic in the next round.

In some other notable matches, Andy Murray advanced after taking down Michael Llodra in straight sets. He’ll take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round after Tsonga made short work of Frederico Gil in straight sets. Hewitt wasn’t the only one to pull an upset as Mikhail Kukushkin took down No. 14 ranked Gael Monfils in five sets.

For the women, Serena Williams dominated Greta Arn in straight sets and will face off against Maria Sharapova in the next round. Ekaterina Makarova was able to upset No. 7 ranked Vera Zvonareva after taking the first set in a tie breaker and winning the match on a 6-1 set.
