One month in, one Grand Slam in the record books and one man still atop the rankings.
Andy Murray Will Be No. 1 By The End Of 2012, At Least That’s His Goal
Yeah, 2012 isn’t exactly like what Andy Murray wanted post-Australian Open to look like, however, he’s not stopping at a semifinal loss in a Grand Slam. He’s going to win one. He’s going to become the World No. 1 this season.
Per The Guardian:
“I want to get to No. 1,” he said. “That’s one of my goals this year and I’ll try my best to do it.”
With three Grand Slams left in the year as well as a full-tournament schedule, it’s not an impossible goal for Murray, despite any injuries.
With the addition of new coach, legendary tennis player Ivan Lendl, that goal may come sooner than later.
First, Murray has to knock the No.1 before he can become the No. 1. Seeing how that No. 1 is Novak Djokovic, the same No. 1 since last July, it will take giving Djokovic something he isn’t that used to in the past year - a loss.
But, once Murray wins big like Djokovic, then he can celebrate like Djokovic.
