On Day One of the Qatar Exxonmobil Open, Swiss tennis star Roger Federer lead a kid’s clinic on Court 6. On Day Two of the tournament, the No. 2 seed will take on Nikola Davydenko.
Qatar Open 2012: Roger Federer’s Match With Nikola Davydenko Highlights Day 2
The last time Federer met Davydenko in this same tournament was in the final match of the 2011 tournament. Davydenko was the defending champion, but Federer ended up the winner in 2011, defeating Davydenko, 6-3, 6-4.
The tournament takes place in Doha, Qatar with a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16 with total prize money of $1,024,000 up for grabs.
All seeds still remain in the tournament after No. 8 seed Andreas Seppi, No. 5 seed Viktor Troicki and No. 6 seed Alex Bogomolov won their respective matches on Day One. This is Bogomolov’s first appearance at the Qatar Open.
No. 2 seed Federer, the defending tournament champion who also won the tournament in 2005 and 2006, boasts a 23-3 record in the Open.
No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal faces Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber. Nadal is competing in the Doha tournament for the fifth time. He has compiled a 11-4 record.
No. 3 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play wildcard entry Malek Jaziri. Tsonga made his first Doha appearance in 2011. He didn’t drop a set until his semifinal loss to Federer.
No. 4 seed Gael Monfils takes on Rui Machado of Portugal. Monfils’ best tournament finish was a finals appearance in 2006. He lost to Federer. Monfils is back in Doha for the first time in three years, when he last lost to Andy Roddick in the semifinal round.
