Sam Stosur, 2011 Wimbledon Champion, got her first win as a Grand Slam champion in front of her hometown at the Brisbane International Open. Stosur defeated Anastasiya Yakimova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

No. 2 seed Andrea Petkovic found her way to the third round. After a three-set opening round match, Petkovic decided on only a first-set tiebreaker before bageling opponent Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the second set.
Petkovic started the 2012 season ranked No. 10 in the WTA.

“This is really a year for me to see if I can keep up with the higher expectations and if I can still improve my game and sort of just stay level headed and focus on myself,” she said.
Hometown hero Bernard Tomic also got his first victory at the Brisbane International on Monday. The 19-year-old beat Julien Benneteau of France in three sets. Kei Nishikori of Japan also made it to the second round with a three-set victory.
No. 1 seed Andy Murray will take on Mikhail Kukushkin in an evening match down under.
