Andy Roddick Gone From SAP Open In Straight Sets During Quarterfinals

Well, that didn’t last “two” long.

American Andy Roddick exited earlier from the Australian Open due to an injury. In his comeback tournament, the SAP Open, Roddick was booted during the quarterfinal round in straight sets, losing to Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 6-2, 6-4

Roddick is ranked No. 17 in the world. He has 30 career singles titles and one Grand Slam title. Istomin is ranked No. 49 in the world. He has made the final of only two tournaments -- New Haven in 2010 and he is now into the finals of San Jose.

This wasn’t just a loss on Roddick’s resume. Per the AP, it was a pretty gruesome, and fairly short, match:

Roddick lost every point in his first service game and never regained his rhythm. He slammed one racket, broke another, sailed a ball into the stands in frustration, argued with the chair umpire and even shouted at his own box during the course of a frustrating match that took only 76 minutes.
