Andy Roddick won for the second time in the four matches since he retired from the second round of the Australian Open.
Delray Beach Results Day 1: Andy Roddick Wins In 3 Sets

This comes after being bounced from the opening round of an ATP tournament in Memphis just last week.
Roddick dropped the second set in Delray Beach, which caused his match to go an hour and 29 minutes, but he knocked off Germany’s Philipp Petzschner 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Roddick hit nine aces and won 80 percent of his first service points.
The 29-year-old American is currently ranked No. 30 in the world. He started 2012 at No. 14.
Despite being the most popular American at the tournament, Roddick is not the No. 1 seed. That spot went to world No. 13 John Isner. Roddick is the tournament’s No. 4 seed. Roddick was the No. 1 seed last year but withdrew before the start of that tournament due to illness.
In his 12th year as a pro, Roddick has acknowledged that the schedule is taxing on him physically. From the Palm Beach Post:
“The toughest thing for me is the decision-making process between laying off, rehabbing or trying to play through something. I don’t know that there’s a right answer,” Roddick said.
